Why an App Update Can Be Rejected

Compliance/App Store Requirements

App store review isn't a one-time thing. Every update to your app goes through review again, which means an update can be flagged even if earlier versions sailed through. Here's what that means and why it's nothing to worry about.

Updates Get Reviewed, Too

Each time we push an update to your app, whether it's a new feature or a routine fix, Apple and Google review it against their current guidelines before it goes live. So an app that was approved months ago can still get questions on its next update.

Why It Happens with Cannabis Apps

Cannabis apps get ongoing extra scrutiny, and the rules (and the reviewers applying them) shift over time. A change that was fine before might be questioned now, or a different reviewer may read a guideline differently. This is a normal part of operating a cannabis app and not a sign anything is wrong with yours.

How We Handle It

The process is the same as your first submission:

  • We review the store's feedback and figure out exactly what they're asking for.
  • We make the needed adjustments and resubmit, sometimes over a round or two.
  • You don't need to do anything. We keep you posted and resubmit until the update is approved.

In the meantime, your currently live app keeps working for your customers while the update is in review.
