Sending Push Notifications

DopeHub

Push notifications are one of the most direct ways to reach your app customers: a sale, a new drop, a reminder, straight to their phone. This guide covers how to create a notification, preview and test it, send or schedule it, and read the results afterward.

Opening Notifications

With All Stores selected, choose Notifications from the left navigation. The page shows your past and upcoming notifications, organized into Sent, Scheduled, and Cancelled tabs, along with top-line stats: Total Sent, Delivered, Open Rate, and how many are Scheduled.

Creating a Notification

  1. Select + Create Notification.
  2. Set your Audience:
    • Target Stores: choose the store or stores this notification goes to. (You must select at least one.)
    • Audiences: choose one or more audiences to target a specific segment. Leave it empty, or on Select Audience, to reach all users. For help building a segment, see Creating a Custom Audience.
  3. Write your Content:
    • Title: up to 100 characters.
    • Message: up to 500 characters.
    • Image (optional): drop in an image or paste a URL (PNG, JPG, or SVG up to 10 MB). As you type, the phone preview on the right updates live so you can see exactly how it will look.
  4. Add a Deeplink (optional): for each store, select a deeplink so tapping the notification opens a specific screen in your app (a product collection or single product, for example) instead of just the home screen.
  5. Set your Schedule: leave Schedule for later off to send right away, or toggle it on to choose a date and time.
  6. Send or schedule your notification.

Test Before You Send

Before sending to your customers, you can send yourself a test. Select Test Notification, enter the phone number of a valid, active user opted in for push notifications, and select Send Test Notification. This is the best way to check your title, message, image, and deeplink on a real device before the notification goes out widely.

Reading Your Results

After a notification sends, select it from the list to open its detail panel. You'll see when it was created, the message, the audience it went to, and a Notification Status breakdown:

  • Sent: successfully pushed to the customer's device.
  • Opened: the customer tapped the notification.
  • Bounced: couldn't be delivered (more on this below).

Each is shown as a count and a percentage, and you can search the recipient list or filter it by All, Sent, Opened, or Bounced to see exactly who falls into each bucket.

What "Bounced" Means

A bounce means the push couldn't reach the device. Common reasons include an expired or invalid push token, the customer uninstalling the app or turning off notifications, the operating system dropping the message (rate-limited or offline too long), or the app being blocked at the system level.

Managing Your Notifications

Use the Sent, Scheduled, and Cancelled tabs to find notifications by state, and the Search box to find one by name.

Tips for Better Campaigns

  • Keep the title short. You have room for 100 characters, but a few punchy words land best on a lock screen.
  • Lead with the value. Put the offer or reason to tap up front in the message.
  • Target, don't blast. Sending to the right audience instead of everyone protects your open rates and respects who's opted in. See Audience Recipes That Drive Engagement.
  • Time it well. Check your Peak Ordering Times in Analytics and send when your customers are most active.
  • Test first. A quick test send can catch typos and mistaken deeplinks before they reach customers.
  • Use a deeplink. Send the tap somewhere useful: a featured collection or a specific product, not just the app home.
